“Just because you break a tooth doesn’t mean you need a crown.”
Accepting New Patients
A Michigan native, Dr. Godzina grew up in Adrian, the older of two brothers. After graduating from Adrian High School, he attended Western Michigan University where he received his bachelor degree in Biomedical Sciences with a focus in Neurobiology. Upon acceptance into the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, he completed his degree becoming a Doctor of Dental Surgery. Dr. Godzina moved to Northern Michigan in 2005 and began practicing as a general dentist. He and his wife, Jana, have four children and most of all enjoy spending time together. Besides being a wonderful mother, she is also the Manager of Outpatient surgery at our local hospital. Together they have strived to improve the healthcare provided in the community for over a decade and a half.
Dr. Godzina has continued to provide the best and most state of the art care dentistry has to offer by taking a multitude of advanced continuing education courses. This gives him the ability to implement services that are usually performed by only specialists. This includes placing and restoring dental implants as well as performing single appointment root canal treatments, thus eliminating the need to travel out of town. He also believes that a conservative treatment approach tends to be the best and hopes to bring honesty back to dentistry by doing superiorly place white tooth colored fillings over expensive crowns when possible.
Recently, the importance of quality sleep has come into the forefront of healthcare. The majority of an individual’s problem with sleeping are attributed to their airway closing off & creating nocturnal suffocation (i.e. snoring). Over time this deteriorates the body’s ability to repair itself, leading to very serious consequences. Some of the most dramatic ailments include chronic high blood pressure, weight gain, early onset strokes and even dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. After studying this over the past several years, Dr. Godzina has created Sleep Apnea Solutions. He now has the unique ability to evaluate all of his patients as well as a growing number of referrals from the hospital’s sleep clinic & area physicians in order to determine if a customized oral appliance can bring back their quality of sleep. These non-invasive, life-saving devices have the ability to eliminate the need to wear a CPAP mask & hosing in most cases. And, they can usually be billed through a patient’s medical insurance.
As the current past President of the Manistee-Mason District Dental Society, Dr. Godzina is a very active member in the local governance of his profession. In the past, he has also served as secretary, treasurer, as well as vice president of the MMDDS and is also a current member of both of the Michigan Dental Association and American Dental Association. Dr. Godzina is a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Onekama, serving as an Elder and as Vice Chairman of the congregation. He too volunteers his time as a constituent serving as Vice President on the CASMAN Alternative Academy school board, a charter school focused on teaching highly at-risk teenagers.
